President's Message - September 11, 2018

Ontario Principals Council President Message

Letter to Minister Regarding our Concerns with the Interim HPE Curriculum

Following the release of the interim elementary health and physical education curriculum, we reviewed the content against that in the 2015 curriculum that was used in schools last year. We have some concerns about the interim document related to appraisal, reporting and terminology and have written to the Minister to express those concerns. A copy of the letter can be found here.

OCT Seeking P/VPs for College Committees

The Ontario College of Teachers is seeking practising or recently retired principals and vice-principals to develop a roster from whom panelists may be chosen to sit on the Investigation and Discipline committees. These people will sit on screening panels or preside over hearings of alleged misconduct or incompetence of College members with experienced Committee members. It is a three-year term. Successful applicants will receive appropriate training.

If you are interested, please contact outreach@oct.cafor more details, or call 416-961-8800, ext 685. Applications are due by September 30, 2018.

Peer review is extremely important in self-governing bodies. It is something we fought hard to achieve. We hope that as practising or recently retired school leaders you will consider applying to serve your colleagues in this very important role.

Special thanks to OPC Members Chad Mowbray, Richard Erdmann and Chris Moore for offering to host the chats.

To take part, sign in to Twitter (or join if you do not currently have an account) at 8 pm on Thursday, enter #OPCchat in the Search Twitter box in the upper right corner, the questions and instructions will be set up and introduce yourself once the moderator opens the chat. Remember to always include #OPCchat with your comments. We hope you can join us!
