The sessions will be conducted using Anishinaabek pedagogy and ways of learning by Nancy Rowe and guest speakers. The planned topics (subject to change) for each day are   

  • Day 1 – Michi Saagiig and Anishinaabek history, geography, science

  • Day 2 – contact, correcting myths, contemporary issues and cocreation of a resource that will be useful to participants in their role as school leaders.

The fall session taking place October 26-27 is open to all. This session taking place November 20-21 is a continuation of the learning from Part One and is open to those who participated in the retreat in 2021, 2022 or 2023.

Nancy Rowe ImageNancy Rowe is a Mississauga, Ojibwe of the Anishinaabek Nation located at New Credit First Nation, ON. Nancy holds an honors BA in Indigenous Studies and Political Science. She is an educator, consultant and a Traditional Practitioner of Anishinaabek lifeway’s, views and customary practices and is currently completing a Master’s degree of Environmental Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo. She is an avid volunteer who coordinates Akinomaagaye Gaamik, a grassroots initiative to provide educational opportunities for all peoples interested in Indigenous perspectives of life, health, education, history and the environment. “Education is the doorway through which we all can create a common ground and understanding of not only Indigenous Peoples but also, and more importantly, our environment.”

 

Fall Retreat Part Two - November 20-21

This retreat is a continuation of the learning from Part One and is open to those who participated in the retreat in 2021, 2022 or 2023.

November 20 – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

November 21 – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Start times are firm and end times may vary to accommodate the flexibility of Anishinaabek pedagogy.

  • Lunch and snacks will be provided by Indigenous caterers. 
  • Breakfast and dinner are the responsibility of each participant.

The registration fee for this session does not included the cost of accomodation. This is the responsibility of each participant. A hotel room block will be arranged at a nearby facility. More information will be available soon.
